Gone In An instance. (Tribute to loved ones)

Today started off as a normal day. It wasn't a good day but it wasn't a bad one either. I guess you could say I was content at the least. That was until I got wind of one of my favorite artists dying from a drug overdose. This year and the past year alone have been tough for some. I was going to trap myself inside of my office and get a shit ton of work done for RVSHNFK but after finding out one of my inspirations has passed away it has inspired me to take a different course in life. To be a little less privileged when it comes to expecting myself and the others I love to wake up the next day. It's never a guarantee but for some reason life becomes to repetitive it seems that we start to take a lot of the the small and minor shit for granted. I'm not going to type a bunch of shit that most of you probably won't read. I just want to say enjoy your lives, cherish your loved ones, pursue all of your dreams to the fullest, and try really hard to appreciate all of the sm...

In the Stu With JayFee

I've known Jordan Fiesta (JayFee) for a while now.  Like the days of skating Mount Trashmore (Skate park) when there weren't any other parks around to skate...( within a 5 mile radius). I met this dude through skateboarding and we've both managed to express our creativity through other outlets after skateboarding. Jordan Fiesta is a producer based in Virginia Beach, Va.The Hometown of Pharrell Williams, one of my favorite artists / producers in the music industry. Derrin Thompson: For the audience, tell us what you do. Fee: I am a Hip-Hop and R&B Music Producer. D:What's it like being a producer ? Fee: Its a lot of work. The lifestyle is crazy. A lot of long days and nights grinding. A lot of pain, a lot of happiness, and a lot of dedication. D:How long have you been producing? Fee: Ive been producing for eight years, going on nine. Going harder every year. D:What got you into this line of work? Fee: Really, band class. Drumline. I played anythi...

James Wagner of Pain In The Yeahs

Image
Derrin Thompson : I finally got a chance to sit down and talk with James Wagner of Pain In The Yeahs about their recently released album 'dopamine noir', his journey with sobriety, advice to musicians / artists and what he would like to see change in the local music / arts community. D: Hi James, how's everything going? James Wagner: Exceptionally well, thank you. D: You are in and band called Pain In The Yeahs. Can you tell the readers who's also in the band and what roles do you all play? J: Pain In The Yeahs started in the early 2010’s as a bedroom/lo fi project that served as escapism from general anxiety and various hardcore punk bands I’ve been a part of. Thus far I have written and recorded everything myself, with Jacki Paolella and my brother Jon Ryan Wagner (both audio engineers) playing pivotal roles in both pre and post production. The live side of the band has typically changed drastically with each release, but the last year has seen some...

Behind The Lens: Brandon Eastep

Where you from, man? I grew up in Poquoson, Virginia. I now live in Newport News. What's your creative field? I’m a cinematographer and editor. How long have you been shooting? Roughly 14 years. Not all of that time did I take it seriously. In the beginning it was just running around filming my friends skateboarding. I guess things haven’t changed too much in that aspect but it wasn’t until a few years ago I started really focusing on making something of it. What inspires you to do what you do everyday? I’ll start by saying I don’t film or work on edits everyday. There will be times where it’ll be months of not doing anything film related. However there are a lot of things that inspire me. I think about new project ideas all the time. Most of the time it’s driven by something I have read. The main thing that inspires me though is skateboarding. Whenever I’m filming one of my friends I’m always coming up with new ideas of things I want to make. Those ideas usu...

Trying to directly pinpoint her sound is a difficult task. When creating both her music and clothing, each individual project takes on a new tone and draws from a different inspiration. But every track from OPAL always seems to hold the power to transport listeners elsewhere, at least for the duration of...
